Core PCL Technology

Our various PCLTool SDK product options are designed first and foremost for developers in the form of development libraries, programs and utilities. PageTech's PCLTool SDK includes the broadest range of creative tools and programs for PCL conversion, transformation, text extraction and printstream editing.

We have also compiled a collection of the GUI programs from the SDK used for viewing, converting, debugging and analyzing PCL for individual end users with low page volume requirements... called PCLWorks Program.

PCLTool SDK converts all levels of HP PCL print files composed of text, font, line and raster data into bitmap (PDF, PDF/A, TIFF, XPS, BMP, PNG, PCX, DCX and other formats) or vector (PDF, PDF/A, XPS, WMF of EMF) format files with metrically matching TrueType fonts for those used to create PCL print files.

PCLTool SDK is unique in that it uses its own internal font engine to rasterize fonts "on-the-fly" to create either bitmap files at various resolutions or vector files with TrueType fonts to match those resident fonts in Windows and HP LaserJet printers.

PCL File Pre-Process Optimization - We can optimize large PCL print files by eliminating all the fonts that are downloaded over and over again throughout the print stream. We can even eliminate the download bitmap or scalable characters downloaded in temporary fonts from Windows printer drivers.

The process is fast. We can intercept the PCL on-the-fly and optimize it before it prints or it’s transformed by any product. Not only is the file size reduced, but more importantly – the optimized file prints or transforms much faster.

Text Extraction - We, alone, can extract text from the most complex PCL files. We normally need to be consulted to select the best text extraction method depending on the nature of the PCL.

Rapid Custom Application Development - With just 2-3 hrs. of programming, we can decollate, add logos, auto-index and convert your high volume print streams for archiving into any third-party document imaging system.
